Army conducts canal declogging, road clearing operations in Lanao del Sur

To address the recurring flooding in the area, the Charlie “Cobra” Company of Philippine Army’s 5th Infatnry “Duty-Bound” Battalion conducted canal declogging and highway road clearing operation in the Municipality of Poona Bayabao and Masiu, Lanao del Sur on October 28 to November 3, 2020.

Intended to eliminate flooding in the area, the canal declogging and highway road clearing operation was conducted with the help of the Local Government Unit (LGU) of the said municipalities.

Troops of Charlie Company headed by its Commanding Officer 1Lt. Julius Cezar Mendez, and representatives of the LGUs proceeded to the area to declog the canal and remove garbage along the road that cause flooding. Among the collected waste were plastic, food waste and silt.

The operation aims to mitigate flooding in the area and discourage indiscriminate dumping of garbage on canals and other waterways.

Road obstructions were also cleared.

1Lt. Mendez said they will continue to conduct such activity as a preventive measure to prevent flooding in the area.

“The troops of Charlie Company, 5IB are not only combatants but also protectors of the environment,” Mendez said.
